FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT in Exmouth
We
are glad to announce the visit of Sher and Roshan Ghazi from north
Pakistan
who are coming to Devon for the Fortnight and
who will be in Exmouth on Wednesday February 29.
Their organisation 'Mountain Fruits' grows apricots like the ones in our picture.
That morning they will be sharing in a junior schools conference about Fairtrade,
being held at St Joseph's school with children from 3 other schools;
in the afternoon they will visit Exeter Road school and
in the evening there will be an informal reception -
please contact the group secretary (details below) for an invitation to
this.
On Saturday afternoon March 3 there will be a
concert given by Exmouth's own CHOIR 97, with
Iain McDonald (baritone)
at All Saints Church on Exeter Road, starting at 2.30pm.
Tickets are £6 (school students free)
available from the Town Hall, Oxfam shop, BNatural shop,
from members of the steering group - and of course on the door.
During
Fairtrade Fortnight there will be an
information centre (looking remarkably like a garden shed) located on The
Strand,
where we shall distribute samples of various Fairtrade products, information
etc.
On Saturday morning March 3 at the shed, there will be an opportunity
to dip some tropical fruits into our Fairtrade chocolate fountain - not to
be missed.

Information about local Fairtrade suppliers
The
status of 'Fairtrade Town' depends on the support of:
1 the
local authority - Exmouth Town Council
are backing the idea (see
their minutes)
2 retailers and
caterers - there are over a dozen outlets
already and we are researching to identify others (see
list)
3 the community
in general - several churches and organisations
already serve Fairtrade refreshments
and we are encouraging
others to do so too.
